Kaun Banega Crorepati Star – Shiekkha Pruthi’s Experience

Kaun Banega Crorepati, straightly knocks two things to any head Big B and life changing hot seat. Months back sitting in my bedroom, just surfing channels like any other couch potato…my eyes halted at kbc ad- lines open for season 5, with new punch line Punchchoti Mahamoney, kaun banega corepati or ab Aam Adami Rachega Itihaas, saw question for the day, as expected with easiest question with much more easiest options, feeling inside proud of self,..oh I know this end sms with option B to 5252525. First sms since kbc started, with no intention to get selected for the game show. What’s next was forget it and dissolve in my usual life.

How I got selected to Kaun Banega Crorepati?

A day later got call from unknown landline Mumbai number, that call was waiting call, as I was busy gossiping for the day with my mother. Half an hour later, again got call from same number….”Namaskar mein—Baat kar raha hun, kbc team ki aur se, kya mein apka naam jaan sakta hoon?”.. Next two minutes conversation made me realized am I listening something really fascinating. My number was short listed for kbc.

Now next step was to answer simple 2 questions out of three during the same call to recorded computer conversation…and was told If my answers are correct and again shortlisted, will be called for ground auditions round then.

Next day, luck door again knocked, Got call from some another unknown Mumbai landline number. “Congrats, is it Shikha Pruthi? You’re finalized for ground auditions round which will be held on 2 june’ 2011 for delhi at mathura road, Doors will open till 9pm only and don’t forget to bring along your necessary documents and photographs of yours and phone a friend.”..

My Audition Day at KBC set

The day came, I went for auditions, as rule of the kbc team, no one else can accompany to audition building. Cell phones were switched off. Entering inside, left me amazed, as apart from me, more than 250 other people from different age groups belonging to small near by villages, near by cities and localities were struggling for their luck.

A thick booklet was provided to us,…and sticker showing our contestant number was pasted to our front. To my left was a guy, looking too sweet busy in filling up his booklet, I just exchanged few words with him…and was amazed with his handwriting…only god knows the destiny and future,…and this guy was Nitin singh shekawat,..if one can recall,,, he was the candidate who played just before me…and he was throughout the show,..sitting next to me….may be luck has to took us together only. Anyways, busy in filling up their forms, everyone was head down as the booklet was very long…around 50-55pages,…had to fill entire kinda gist of life…sharing from holidays to favorite personality. Details of companion and phone a friend(s). Later on, we were told, after small breakfast, a clip of Big b will be telecasted for us,..in which he’ll ask us few questions, and we had to answer the same on our sheets.

After noon, session was for video shoot, one by one, according to the contestant number,…each contestant was taken upstairs to the studio room for footage shooting…as being one of them,…came my turn…and I entered the room with Big smile. Placing my booklet to table….I introduced self as Shikha Pruthi from Delhi…the lady present for my footage was some gunjan…she was appearing quite cheerful and friendly with a smiley face….she asked me to stand in the front of camera….behind me was a big poster of amitabh bachaan ji with kbc logo…she asked me, is it comfort for me to stand for long for the footage? I replied,..yes I can manage,,,but if it is sitting position, it’ll be more comfortable. And she nodded to my say…and called spot boys and moved tables so that I could sit on that and behind me, that poster was easily visible. Her first question….you got recently married…how long and when…is it love or marriage….? And started reading my booklet….after mins of conversation,…ok shikha ,…one more question…do you want to share anything about you….which is very special….?

With more answers,..it was over…I came down…had my lunch…. Got goody bag gifts and exchanged numbers of some friends , saving kbc in the end of their names.

A great day to be enjoyed and came back to home…..waiting for calls of relatives asking about auditions….i was told if I got selected will get call till 15 july…if not , better luck,,,try for next time.

My Waiting for KBC Call for final Selection

15 july passed no call….and on 15 august kbc got a start….everytime I watched the show…deep inside had a bad feeling…when Big b…address the chair….you would be the next aam adami…it was weirdest feeling could ever had….end of the august…lines got opened again for jodi special round….thought this time…might be would get more lucky… and made up mind to text answer…but couldn’t locate my phone…suddenly, a ring came and I found my phone…that call was missed instantly…I swiftly replied to the question with sms….mins. later My phone rang again…it was unknown Mumbai landline number….and I had dubluck feeling…deep inside, got excited…yes it could be a call from kbc. And as expected , my gutt feeling was right this time…it was my selection call…I confirmed my presence and got my shooting dates…that was just a week later..
Got a to do list from kbc team, what to bring along…kind of dresses for self and companion, even was told to prepare few lines for Big B as I had written in my booklet,, I do poetry… KBC team told me about video footage shooting…which is to be done before shooting…so our tickets were confirmed for two days before shooting days as one day was video shooting.

Taking blessings and best wishes from everyone, me and my husband took flight for Mumbai for kbc…it was one more reason for me to be happy…as it was my first trip to Mumbai….with a motive to have fun…rather winning loads of money….i began my journey….during flight, I wrote that poem…which was later on…liked by so many people…

We reached hotel…rest of the day was for leisure….but my bad throat and health, didn’t allow us to do anything expect doing gargles and taking rest…around midnight our contestant manager,..knocked our room…he obliged for being late,..as he was busy in shoot. He briefed us everything regarding shooting and the show….as from being to delhi only…he instantly become very friendly… and left room with a compliment to us….a couple which is actually made for each other.
Next day,..was for video shoot….and the whole day went for the shooting of that small clip which was telecasted before the beginning of my game. During that day…I actually, came to know…how it works,..shooting, dubbing, editing, acting….got a preface of all these areas.

My KBC Episode Shooting

Then came the S day,…shooting day,…all contestants were told to be assembled at hotel lobby till 8am in the morning,..with their bags including their dresses. I saw couple of people standing there, chatting with each other….got introduced to everyone….total 8 contestant and their companions….manager call for the cars and we left for the shooting place….it was goregoan, filmcity, where the set of kbc was there…..it took an hour to reach there.

Reaching there,…was group of people, make up team, hair stylist team, clothes stylist team, floor managing team….looking to that was like,…how professionally, everything is handled…there, two more contestant joined us,,,they were from Mumbai itself… turn by turn our make up and hair was done….we all were feeling like film stars ,…clothes were selected and ironed….even the same was for companions…..we did our necessary documentation..

All contestants were taken to the big place….it was dark room,..no mobile phones were allowed inside…we went inside kind of some tunnel….went up few stairs,…it was amazing view….kbc set…and floor….hot seat was there…..looking for the first time was great feeling….with no audiences, only few floor managers and shooting team members…they showed us our sits…which will be our fixed for all episodes….first time I touched the screen and saw wonder ‘computer ji’ from behind…..it was amazing feeling….we were introduced to the fastest finger screens…hot seat and the entire set…practice was done on fastest finger touch screen,….that moment, got to know, how it appears from my TV screens and what is actual one….we had few practice sessions on both seats…were told how to meet big B and take step to hot seat, were camera positions are located…and to prepare few lines for him as when we meet him first time….and then the moment came,…we all were standing behind set in our order…waiting for our call to be on stage….suddenly huge noise and claps came,…it was The amitabh bachaan ji standing in front of me….a tall figure…appearing some statue,…very whitesh,..elegant…giving waves to everyone and finally he turned neck towards us…and said hello to us….and the shooting began…it was first moment I saw him so close when I was called on stage for my introduction as shown in the telecast….the best was…we were seeing him for first time so closely so all those reactions were very natural….my heart was beating too harder…after entering, how he hold my hand was just a wonderful feeling…but my eyes were wondering for my husband….wished he was too there….my amitabh bachan….

And the game started….trying hard again and again….i missed fastest finger round….mr. basu came after every 15-20 mins. Break,…just to cheer up…as some other episodes are left and big opportunities still left….the entire kbc unit was very friendly….i don’t know what was in me….but everyone from spot boy to the camera man…was cheering me up…and the episode got over.

Given a break for two hours…we quickly changed our clothes, make up and hair do….and again rushed to the set….Big b came again,..with new audiences but same noise and claps….it was his charm.

Episode started and went on….and I was still struggling my luck for hot seat…..feeling very hopeless as coming till here and not reaching hot seat was like climbing to the top floor and suddenly foot slip…..we came back to hotel….and were told two more episodes are to be shooted and one might have some celebratory and whose is it…nobody knows that…. The next day was Tuesday…which is weekily off for big b….so day left for us to roam around in mumbai….with a feel to freshen up my mood….we had a city tour….visiting shidiviyank temple to gateway of India….i got to know about Mumbai and its culture….next day was again supposed to be a tiring one as of shooting for another two episodes…and the day started with meeting at lobby….prashant, our manager took us to same place and the same things were done….make up, hair and clothes were done…everyone complimented me and said to be hot seat and I was looking prettiest in that episode….as told till then…it was last episodes with 2-3 max. chances left and last episode is still not known….and again it gone hopeless for me….as just sitting in the same chair and clapping for others and waiting for my turn…. wishing that moment for a touch screen phone…would have more practice of this touch screen…whose touch screens was so sensitive…and the episode went off…I looked behind, vikas was sitting in audience…he signaled me a smile…and asked me to call at home and suddenly mr. basu came and said yes we are having the next entire episode for you contestants , so don’t loose hope….still a chance is left….i was like just thanking god….kinda, miracle happened with me….we changed and got ready for last episode , my this episode’s outfit was selected as least priority as, according to stylist, it was too bright color for camera….before shooting got started, big b came to me,..as I was only contestant left to my side…and said try hardest this time….and shaked hand. I don’t know what was it….but I internally got some magical motivation….this time I had to….nitin, the guy playing as role over,..quickly wrapped…and came the fastest finger…..this time I was inside least expecting and somewhere very positive….and suddenly….Mr. Bachhan called for my name…and asked to come to the stage….i was just shocked.

All that was telecasted was exact what happened….nothing editing or retaked one….when I reached to the hot seat…a 10 mins break is given, which is given for each contestant for mike change….make up re touch…companion is given mike and make up…during that break…I was so nervous.., even was not able to stand with out support, as was just shivering with excitement…as I turned back I heard a loud noise….and saw vikas was fallen there….he came running down, after hearing my name….and in a hurry,, his foot got stucked to last step,,which was not fixed….his only trouser bought to the set was tear off…kbc team helped him and took aside…..put some black tapes as just to make his trouser workable….was asked to consult doctor, as a doctor is always present there….mean while,…looking all this,..i tired to rush towards him….and big b holded my hand….you stay here…he is fine…the team will help him….i went back stage…my micks were changed….and finally hot seat was calling me…I asked vikas to give me my poem and he went off to his seat. I pushed him back and hugged him in front of entire audience as luck hug before seating to that chair…..and the nose and claps came and for a change it was not for big b, it was for us….hot seat was quite taller as it appears and flexible too….i find myself difficult to climb up….big b was just standing there ,…his make up artist was re touching his make up….and he came rushing towards me….hey hey…which is your stronger leg? He asked, I replied –left , to him….

He told my right hand and asked me to put left leg up and then climb. I said, sir I managed during rehearsals…don’t know why ,…I cant right now? He just nodded with a smile..dont worry…I’ll help now…and he did….and ask mr. basu took start my shooting from the chair only…..he was smiling to me…

The shooting started as we all saw similar on telecast….and then first break, suddenly, mr. basu announced bangles are making noise,…so shooting halted for 10 mins. a team member came and tried my chuda with tape…so that I cant move and make noise…big b was sitting in front and was just smiling to me…..i said,..sir, they are saved….my chura was double…before coming here,..i made it half….he started laughing….

The whole shooting went as shown in the telecast…my whole concentration was on that moment being face to face with Big B, not game or money deep inside I was answering to myself,. “Girl you can get many other opportunities to earn much more money in life. But this 1 hour being with this superstar so closely,..never ever…..” This is my answer to all those people,…who later asked me…..why you’re just busy in chatting with big b instead playing game and winning game….few other behind the camera chats was between us and few scenes were edited…and finally I went off the hot seat during the end of episodes. For few technical reason one or two retakes for few scenes are taken and I was called for that again on hot seat. Big B again helped me to climb up and this time he was in great jolly mood. He turned his face weird and said…no no plzz save when I came in front of him….and then Mr. Basu said “No need of mike for Shikha” and then big b said “Aaaassh….baach gaye….Basu ji aapne baacha liya…nahi toh pata nahi toh phir se shikha ji ko mike milta toh kya karti”.

I was just sitting numb and smiling to his words….shooting got over.. while climbing down…vikas joined us for clicks with Big B and he said to vikas….I am sorry….just to create family atmosphere…I was just pulling her leg…don’t mind…and It was wonderful meeting you both as a couple….then we had treasure moments. clicks with Big B….the dream came to an end with the telecast….rest is history which is rather seen by most of us.

I would like to share one thing that not only this show is fantastic but the people behind it, are much more reason for being it fantastic. Hatts off to the concept “Aam adami bhi rachage itihaas!!!”
